The thing about working from home is that even though there are some serious perks, like extra time in bed for you lucky buggers who don’t have young kids and the permanent loungewear situation, it can be tough to switch off at the end of the day.

Creating some easy rituals using essential oils is a great way to help you switch back into ‘home’ mode after a day’s work.

Here’s an overview of my top three oils to shift you into a slower, more chilled space, plus some ideas for using them.

1. VETIVER

Get yourself some vetiver if you spend a lot of time up in your head overthinking, worrying, etc. Distilled from the roots of a grass native to India, vetiver is the ultimate grounding oil. The first time I used this oil, it blew me away. I felt my whole energy shift – drawing down, followed by a feeling of total peace and calm. Since then, vetiver has always been my go-to oil for anchoring me in the present moment, exactly what’s needed after a day at work.

How to use

My favourite way to use vetiver oil is in a roller blend. Check out the Eve & Keel Stability Roller that is a mix of vetiver, elemi and frankincense.

When you shut down your computer or put away your work for the day, roll the blend across your wrists and take some slow deep breaths, letting your shoulders release.

If you are prone to mulling work stuff over and over in the evening, try doing a brain dump of everything that’s on your mind before closing down your workspace and using your roller.

2. BERGAMOT

If joy were a scent, this is it. The sunny citrusy smell of bergamot lifts and calms in such a delicate balance it’s perfect for lightening the energy after a heavy afternoon of work. If you tend to struggle with depression and anxiety, I highly recommend experimenting with bergamot oil.

How to use

Get yourself some bergamot essential oil and add a few drops to your diffuser or oil burner when you finish work for the day. The scent will fill your room with a big hit of positive, calming energy. Most of us could use that right now.

3. NEROLI

Neroli is the name for the essential oil produced from orange blossom; think of it as your beautifully scented rescue remedy. This oil has an almost otherworldly quality and a profound ability to calm and comfort with it. If you ever get stress-triggered palpitations or high blood pressure, I recommend investing in neroli oil (alongside your regular GP support, of course). This makes neroli an ideal choice for shifting gears and transitioning from work mode to relaxation.

How to use

Try the Eve & Keel Reset Mist, a fusion of orange blossom water, vetiver, mandarin, and ylang. The floral water, created during the distillation process, carries many of the properties of neroli oil and smells just as beautiful.

When your working day is over, spray the orange blossom mist around you and your space to cleanse the energy and set the tone for the rest of the day. Even better if you can change into a fresh set of clothes first.

So there you have it, my top three oils to help you switch off and reset when working from home.

If you are wondering who I am, my name’s Jennie – an aromatherapist and founder of Eve & Keel, hence the product plugs!

I’m a natural stress head and got into aromatherapy to help manage my anxiety and panic attacks. I set up a therapy practice in Cambridge and then created Eve & Keel to help fellow stress monkeys unleash their inner zen (it is there, I promise!) and feel more in control of their mental wellbeing.

If you want to learn more about using aromatherapy to help you manage stress and anxiety, including the reset mist and grounding roller blend I talked about, please check out my shop Eve & Keel ( www.eveandkeel.co.uk).
